The President of India is the constitutional head of the Union Executive and acts as the symbol of the nation. The President exercises executive, legislative, judicial, military, and diplomatic powers. All executive actions of the Union government are taken in the President’s name. The President appoints key officials such as the Prime Minister, Governors, judges, and high constitutional authorities. The President also has the power to summon and dissolve Parliament, grant pardons, and declare emergencies. However, these powers are largely exercised on the advice of the Council of Ministers.
