How are soils and vegetation interdependent?
Updated: 06-Jan-2026

Soils and vegetation share a strong interdependent relationship. Soil provides essential nutrients, water, and support for plant roots, enabling vegetation to grow. In return, vegetation protects soil from erosion by wind and water through root binding and surface cover. Decaying plant matter adds organic content to soil, improving its fertility and structure. Dense vegetation helps maintain soil moisture and prevents nutrient loss. Thus, healthy soil supports vegetation, and vegetation helps conserve and enrich soil over time.
